Death of General Lyon, Battle of Wilson's Creek, Missouri, 10 August 1861, (1862-1867). Nathaniel Lyon (1818-1861) was given command of the Union Army of the West on 2 July 1861. Engaging a numerically superior Confederate army at Wilson's Creek, he became the first Union general to be killed during the American Civil War. An engraving from volume I of The War with the South : a History of the Late Rebellion, by Robert Tomes, Benjamin G Smith, New York, Virtue & Yorston, 3 Volumes, 1862-1867. This giclée print offers beautiful color accuracy on a high-quality paper (235 gsm) that is a great option for framing with its smooth, acid free surface. Giclée (French for “to spray”) is a printing process where millions of ink droplets are sprayed onto the paper’s surface creating natural color transitions.
