Engraving of Charles Babbage, an English mathematician, born December 1792, died October 1871. In 1823 Babbage began work on the Difference Engine No. 1, an early adding machine and forerunner of modern computers. A portion was built in 1833, but the project was abandoned as Babbage became involved in designing a more complicated machine, the Analytical Engine. This photographic print is digitally printed on archival photographic paper resulting in vivid pure color and exceptional detail that is suitable for museum or gallery display
