Published September 1, 1919In the 1910s, Irene Castle and her husband, Vernon, became international stars due to their stylish and graceful dance performances. Irene was a model flapper, one of the first to bob her hair and wear the streamlined, flowing dresses that became de rigueur. The Castles appeared in Irving Berlin's 'Watch Your Step' and performed in their own cabaret shows, until Vernon's death, in 1918, made Irene a solo performer. Photograph by Malcolm Arbuthnot in the September 1919 Vanity Fair.Photo licensed from the Condé Nast Collection, home of The New Yorker, Vogue, Vanity Fair and other popular brands. Find this and other artwork at the Condé Nast Collection. The premium photographic print is digitally printed on high-gloss premium photographic paper. The result is a unique silver pearlescent finish with stunning visual impact and depth, suitable for museum or gallery display.
