I bought this because I have other Marilyn pictures in blk and white. I like her reading the newspaper, or drinking a cup of coffee. This one by Mr. Warhol was perfect because it's an example of Pop art. I also like some of his quotes that Art.Com has.

Pop Art icon Andy Warhol (1923-1987) was renowned for the silk-screened multiple images he mass produced in a New York studio called The Factory. In the1960s and 70s, the Factory was a trendy hangout for socialites, entertainers, writers, and hangers-on, including Dorothy Podler. Podler asked if she could shoot a series of ‘Marilyn” canvases Warhol completed and, not fully comprehending, he agreed. Pulling out a revolver, Podler shot a stack of the paintings. The bullet-riddled images became known as the “Shot Marilyn Paintings.”

Andy Warhol’s pioneering Pop Art defined a decade and a culture, distinguishing him as one of the most influential, creative and prolific artists of the 20th century. Originally the most sought-after commercial artist in New York, Warhol (1923 – 1987) is most known for his multiple images of Campbell’s Soup cans, Coke bottles, dollar bills and celebrities, which exalted the beauty within ordinary objects and familiar images. Working out of a studio called The Factory, he invented the silkscreening process which enabled him to mass produce a single image in his signature style. Warhol was also a talented filmmaker, music producer, commercial illustrator, author and magazine publisher.
