Shot during John Wayne’s 1972 filming of “The Cowboys,” renowned celebrity photographer Bob Willoughby adeptly captured The Duke’s rugged, tough-guy essence. Credited for inventing the photojournalistic motion picture still photograph, Willoughby created strong, insightful images of legendary stars, including Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Audrey Hepburn and Frank Sinatra. From his first shots of Judy Garland in "A Star Is Born.", Willoughby collaborated with the publicity departments of the major Hollywood studios, and his work was never out of print for 20 years.

Photographing some of the great celebrities, including John Wayne, Louis Armstrong, and James Dean, international Photo-journalist Bob Willoughby is best known for capturing the reality behind the illusion of Hollywood’s golden era of film. After film school, he refined his skills while working for film studio photographers. Eventually, he began shooting powerful, attractive images, detailing them in picture-stories. Exhibitions for his work have been held in New York, Paris, and London museums.
